The parable of the wise and foolish virgins, found in Matthew 25:1-13, tells the story of ten bridesmaids awaiting the bridegroom’s arrival for a wedding feast. Five of the virgins were prepared by bringing extra oil for their lamps, while the other five did not. When the bridegroom was delayed, the foolish virgins ran out of oil and left to buy more, missing the bridegroom’s arrival and the wedding feast. The parable stresses how important it is that we are spiritually prepared for the return of Christ.
